Analogous Colors

Analogous Colors are colors that sit next to one another on the color wheel.  They have a common hue and lend themselves to be used in a color scheme.  An example of an analogous color scheme is "The Last Mountain", by Shepard Fairey.  In this artwork, Fairey has used the analogous colors yellow, yellow-orange, orange and red-orange and a bold, black silhouetted landscape, to make an impactful visual statement.

The Assignment: Choose a subject matter that means something to you and illustrate it with a graphic, black silhouette.  An example could be a tree to represent environmental awareness.  After selecting your subject, choose an analogous color scheme of three to five colors (from the tempera paints in class) to complete your painting.

Due: 2/22/13
